Now compare the prices back home you are on for a shock.

There are also a couple of very good dentists in Hoi An if you don’t fancy the trip there, will add some recommendations shortly…

2. Getting prescription glasses in Hoi An

Probably not something that comes to mind when visiting Hoi An and Vietnam in general. Getting prescription glasses in Hoi An is a lot cheaper than in the western countries. An eye check up is free and most of the professional shops in the outskirts of town practice fixed prices. Prescription glasses will cost from 30 usd to 100usd. Your prescription glasses can be ready in just 20 minutes!

There are a thousand reputable shops in Hoi An, I don’t personally wear glasses (yet) but this is the shop that always gets a good mention:

Tuan Hung Optic – Address: 277 Nguyen Duy Hieu street, Hoi An

Website: http://www.tuanhungoptic.com

3. Hairdressers in Hoi An

For men, a hair cut in a local barber cost around 10,000 vnd – 20,000 vnd but in these places English is rare so probably not ideal if you want to make sure the barber knows what you want although definitely a local experience!

I personally use Tuan Boy, for a quick hair cut for 50,000 vnd, his English is not great but he will found ways to understand what you are after.

For something more fancy there are two good addresses in Hoi An, Ba le well beauty saloon and Shine design studio.

Ba Le well beauty saloon has glowing reviews on TA and plenty of expats use their services.

Tuan Boy – Address: 148 Nguyen Truong To street. Open everyday

Ba le well beauty saloon – Address: 45/11 Tran Hung Dao Street, Hoi An. Website: http://www.balewellbeautysalon.com

4. Massage in Hoi An

Massages in Hoi An, same as tailors can be a real hit or miss. Hoi An has probably reached 100 + massage parlors but as other things in Vietnam, there is no real qualification requirements to be a masseuse so there is a chance that you will be worst off after leaving the massage parlor.

My two recommendations are Palmarosa spa & NA spa:

1 – Palmarosa Spa

A real reference in Hoi An, Palmarosa spa is located on 90 Ba Trieu street. Established for many years, the therapists are also highly qualified and their prices are very affordable. Count 15 usd for a 40 minute body scrub & 30 usd for a full body therapy.

2 – NA Spa

NA spa has a few outlets in Hoi An, but the must visit is the main one located on the rice paddies. They offer half & full days packages, more fancy than Palmarosa spa, a great spot for the spa fanatics.

Other than these two mentioned, that are thousand more that are worth a try. Most resorts also have great spas but prices are much higher.

Palmarosa spa – 90 Ba Trieu street, Hoi An. Website: http://www.palmarosaspa.vn

NA spa – 100/5 Le Thanh Tong Street, Hoi An . Website: http://www.hoianspa.com

Hello, I’m a 31 Australian male and based on your recommendations, went to get a quick haircut at Tuan Boy.. My hair is very short and the “head shave” took 15mins. The old lady tried to charge me 500000VND! I negotiated and left paying 200000VND Not Impressed, DO NOT GO TO THIS STORE! They try to rip you off!! Beware!!!

Sorry to hear they have tried. Went for a haircut again last week and paid 50,000 vnd. I put prices so people know how much things are supposed to cost as this is common business practice in Vietnam and especially in touristic towns to always try to overcharge tourists. Always bargain first before getting the service, same for street food!
